Las Cruces, NM – On this edition of PUENTES a la comunidad, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra met with the Las Cruces Womxn’s Rally organizers, Eileen Van Wie and Cassandra Calway, inviting all supporters of “Womxn’s rights as Human rights and Human rights as Womxn’s rights” to participate. Since 2017, they will be joining other supporters across the globe on Saturday, January 19, 2019 with a rally, a march will not be held this year in Las Cruces.
The Rally will be held on Saturday, January 19th at the Albert Johnson Park, 501 N. Main Street, next to the Branigan Library, with a brief program beginning at 1 p.m. Dr. Dulcinea Lara, New Mexico State University Associate Professor and Director of Ethnic Studies in the Department of Criminal Justice, will be the keynote speaker. Xochitl Torres Small, Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New Mexico’s 2nd District, and Joanne Ferrary, New Mexico Legislature Representative for Doña County, will also give presentations during the program. Sponsors of the event are the Las Cruces Coalition for Reproductive Justice, NMSU Gender and Sexuality Studies Program, and the NAACP Doña Ana County.
Rally participants are encouraged to arrive early and bring chairs, water, and signs or banners for use during the event.
