Las Cruces Hosts Workshop On Building Great Commercial Districts

As part of the Realizing El Paseo effort, the City of Las Cruces Community Development Department will host a workshop with community revitalization expert Michele Reeves. The workshop will begin at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the Roadrunner Room at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E. Picacho. Reeves’ presentation, Building Blocks of Great Commercial Districts, is open to the public.

Reeves is an urban strategist and commercial development consultant with real world, private sector expertise. She has extensive experience in revitalizing mixed-use districts, placemaking, retail leasing, development consulting, and project management. Her work identifies the building blocks for successful revitalization and developing detailed and achievable plans for revival, with a focus on improving what already exists.

The Realizing El Paseo project is supported by a technical assistance grant from the Urban Sustainability Accelerator (USA) program. In addition to the City of Las Cruces, implementation team members include New Mexico State University, the Mesilla Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization, Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce, Las Cruces Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce, and the Las Cruces Association of Realtors.

Attendees may bring their own brown bag lunch or order one in advance by contacting the LC Green Chamber of Commerce at 575/323-1575. For more information about the event, contact Srijana Basnyat with the City of Las Cruces at (575) 528-3079.
