Driver and Four Passengers Killed in Fatal Crash in Guadalupe County

Guadalupe County, NM – On August 3, 2019 at about 12:20 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal rollover crash on US54 near milepost 212, north of Vaughn, NM.  Here is a statement from New Mexico State Police:

The initial investigation indicates that a 2005 Nissan Armada driven by Mayda Salazar (39) of Chicago, IL was traveling south on US54.  For unknown reasons the vehicle crossed the center line and into the northbound lane.  The vehicle swerved back into the southbound lane and rolled.  There were six passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash and all six were ejected except the driver. The driver, Mayda Salazar sustained injuries believed to be non-life threating and she was transported to a Hospital and released.

Two passengers, A 15-year-old male and a 21-year-old female both of Chicago Illinois sustained injuries to be non-life threating and they transported to a hospital.  A passenger, Francisco Salazar was pronounced deceased on Care Flight Air during midflight on the way to the hospital. The three other passengers sustained fatal injuries and all three were pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. 

The identities of the deceased passengers are as follows:

Passenger 1:                   Francisco Salazar (41) of Chicago Illinois

Passenger 2:                   Daniel Salazar (17) of Chicago Illinois

Passenger 3:                   Ramon Morales (69) of Chicago Illinois

Passenger 4:                   Natalie Salazar (10) of Chicago Illinois

The New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and uniform bureau continue to investigate this crash. It appears the driver of the vehicle was the only one that wore a seatbelt.  Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash and there is no additional information available at this time.
