DAAC will move to the Las Cruces Arts and Cultural District

Las Cruces, NM – On this edition of PUENTES a la comunidad, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra spoke with Doña Ana Arts Council Executive Director, Gregory Z. Smith, to talk to us about their move from Mesilla to Las Cruces on September 1st.

The Doña Ana Arts Council will be joining the recently designated Las Cruces Arts and Cultural District. Smith says, “they will be neighbors with two very historic structures.” The new location is at 250 West Amador Avenue across Water Street from the Amador Hotel, and across Amador Avenue from the Old County Courthouse.

Visitors can still come to the Arts & Cultural Center in Mesilla at 1740 Avenida de Mercado, Suite D, in the Bulletin Plaza through the end of August to view the current Paul Maxwell and Phil Yost exhibit. The first show in the new location will be with works by Mary Beagle. Artists can still submit their works on the DAAC website’s Virtual Gallery: Metaphor for a Virus, Response to the Current Global Pandemic.

DAAC will have to conduct many events virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Annual Community Arts Awards coming up September 20th and the 49th Annual Renaissance ArtsFaire in November will be virtual. Many artists may be experiencing difficulties during this period, several patrons of the arts have contributed to the Dona Ana Arts Council's Artist Relief Fund. $100 grants will be disbursed at the end of each month through December to artists who apply.More information is available on their website daarts.org; and on Facebook.
