Christmas Traditions in the Mesquite District

December 20, 2014 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, Emily Guerra continues with part two of an interview with retired Artistic Producer/Founder of the Court Youth Center and Alma D’Arte Charter High School, Irene Oliver-Lewis, and her sister, local Advocate in Community and Historic Preservation, Sylvia Camuñez. They grew up in the historic Mesquite District of Las Cruces and recall some of their family Christmas traditions. Last week we talked about the different foods their family prepared for Christmas. On this segment we talk about Las Posadas (a re-enactment of Mary and Joseph asking for lodging); Los Pastores (the shepherds), a traditional play; and about decorations and music for Christmas.
