Cameron Van Pelt, Las Cruces High School

KRWG Public Media features interviews with the Las Cruces Mayor's Top Teens in between programs on KRWG-TV.  KRWG is also featuring Top Teens on its website.

Cameron has participated in the week-long Biomedical camp through Las Cruces High School, in which he talked to middle school kids about the medical field.  He also participated in Project Linus through HOSA, where he made blankets for the less fortunate. He assisted in the 5th year celebration of the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument by setting up the festivities and hosting guests.  Through student government, he served food to teachers at LCHS, welcoming them back to school at the beginning of the year.  He also helped in Best Buddies at the Special Education Kickball game and participated at a Comcast Cares event at Tombaugh Elementary.

Cameron has maintained high grade point average while taking honors and AP classes. He is also student body President for the 2019-2020 school year.

He has completed the Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce Junior Leadership Program and attended Boys State, in which he was a councilman and a public regulatory commissioner.  He played basketball for LCHS his freshman and sophomore year. He is the historian for Students for Sustainability, where he also participated in community service, was a member of the HOSA program, and Vice President of the creative writing club at Las Cruces High School.
