Anthony Woman Arrested After Overnight Standoff

Following a standoff that lasted nearly seven hours, an Anthony woman was arrested by Doña Ana County Sheriff’s detectives for allegedly threatening a woman with a gun and attempting to steal her car – moments after threatening another woman who lives nearby.

Lourdes Alvarado, 45, allegedly got into a physical altercation with a woman in the 200 block of Church Street in Anthony. The victim, who drove herself to an El Paso-area hospital, told detectives Alvarado had pointed a gun at her and had physically assaulted her.

Deputies reportedly saw Alvarado walking into the residence on Church Street, but she allegedly refused commands and then barricaded herself inside the home. Several attempts to have her exit the house were unsuccessful.

A search warrant was obtained by detectives, who worked with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Special Response Team to make entry into the home. Alvarado was then taken into custody and transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center.

According to deputies, a call from the 2700 block of Anthony was made to 911 less than an hour before the incident on Church Street, claiming Alvarado had been there making threats.

Alvarado is charged with extortion, aggravated assault against a household member, larceny over $100 and battery. She is being held without bond.
