“What’s Othello really about?” asks Julian Alexander about “Othello: The Remix,” the rap version of Shakespeare’s play that he and three other actors will perform this month with the Scaffolding Theatre Co. In this interview with KRWG’s Intermezzo host Leora Zeitlin, director Megan McQueen suggests that it’s “about how we treat people as “Others.” As she wrote in her director’s notes, “Othello challenges us to consider who we value and who we oppress, who we envy and who we sabotage, and why.”

Valentine’s Day is over, but you can still share the love this weekend with the Scaffolding Theatre Company’s latest production, a five-course meal and theatrical romp called "Five Course Love." The musical by Gregg Coffin requires three actors to perform five characters each, taking the audience into five different restaurant settings, eras, and stories.

Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with Scaffolding Theatre Company Co-Director, Justin Lucero, and cast member of “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast”, Amanda Bradford, to talk to us about their adaption of this classic production. Lucero says “it is a story about story” and wanted to take a new approach to the play and enhance its theatrical magic in a different way. Co-directors, Megan McQueen and Justin Lucero founded Scaffolding Theatre Company in 2014.

Theatre companies and directors have a lot of leeway in how to present a play, but when it comes to Disney musicals, many follow as closely as possible to the film or Broadway productions. Not the Scaffolding Theatre Company, founded by Megan McQueen and Justin Lucero in 2014. This weekend, they’ll present “Beauty and the Beast” in a production that imaginatively reconsiders many classic elements of the show, including the staging, the storytelling framework, and even such famous objects as the teapot, candelabra, and forks.
