Medical Investigator says Deadly December Las Cruces Home Fire was Accidental

Las Cruces, NM – The initial report issued this week from the office of New Mexico's medical examiner shows that the December 22nd house fire which claimed the life of 66 year old Robert Dooley was an accident. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, the medical examiner also believes the Las Cruces man died as a result of smoke inhalation.

NMSU Fulbright Scholar

Las Cruces – A New Mexico State University faculty member had a chance to conduct research overseas thanks to a Fulbright Scholarship.

Phillip De Leon, a professor in the Klipsch School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was chosen as a Fulbright Scholar based upon his leadership and academic merit.

He taught and conducted research at the Vienna University of Technology in Vienna, Austria, from August to December.

De Leon taught and researched digital speech processing.

Vado Fire

Vado – A major hay fire in Vado is being allowed to burn itself out, with
supervision by the property owner and the Dona Ana County Fire and
Emergency Service Department.

Damages are now estimated at about $400,000, which includes the replacement costs for two destroyed metal canopies under which the hay was being stored.

The property owner feels certain the fire is the work of an arsonist. The official investigation into the cause continues.
