Pearce Urges New Mexicans To Comment On Lesser Prairie Chicken Issue

Rep. Steve Pearce (R) New Mexico

Today, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce applauded the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for opening the public comment period for the Range-Wide Lesser Prairie Chicken Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances. The comment period ends January 17, 2014, and a listing decision is due by March 30, 2014.

“The Fish and Wildlife Service worked for several months with the five states that would be impacted by a listing of the lesser prairie chicken, and endorsed their balanced plan to conserve the species and protect jobs,” Pearce said. “I applaud them for taking a serious approach to this important issue, and giving us the opportunity to let our voices be heard. I encourage all New Mexicans to submit their comments to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and tell them now why you support this plan.”

More information on the plan can be found at this website:http://www.fws.gov/coloradoes/Lesser_parairie_chicken/index.html . To submit comments electronically, visit www.regulations.gov, enter “FWS-R2-ES-2012-0071” in the search bar, and click on “Submit Now” to finish the process.
