Congressional candidate Rocky Lara released the following statement after the Washington Post reported that Congressman Steve Pearce wrote in his memoir that women should “voluntarily submit” to their husbands.
“Today’s story that Congressman Pearce believes that women must ‘voluntarily submit’ to their husbands is no surprise given his long voting record against women. As a woman who worked my way through law school and opened a small business in Carlsbad, I am appalled by Congressman Pearce’s offensive rhetoric. My father and mother raised me to believe that if I worked hard I would always have access to the same opportunities as my brother. We need leaders who will stand and fight for all New Mexicans. I will put a stop to Congressman Pearce's extreme agenda and work for New Mexico families.”
KRWG has requested comment from Rep. Pearce's office regarding this post.
