Commentary: Steve Pearce announced today a Four Point Economic Blueprint for Jobs at the Albuquerque Gubernatorial Forum hosted by the Business, Real Estate, and Construction Coalition. Pearce’s plan focuses on economic diversification, addressing the worker shortage, investing in New Mexico businesses, and making New Mexico more business friendly. 

STEVE PEARCE’S FOUR POINT PLAN FOR JOBS AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

1. Focus on multiple levels of economic diversification and development

  • Grow our high tech industry
    • Leverage the labs and new synergy in private and public partnerships and human capital
    • Utilize the Spaceport
      1. Private sector launches
      2. Take advantage of new federal investments in space
    • Renewed focus on blue collar jobs
      • Manufacture and refine our resources
      • Skilled trades
    • Rural focus
      • Build hydroponic organic green houses
    • Expand resource production
      • Cutting our timber instead of burning it
      • Restore our watersheds

    2. Address the worker shortage -- thousands of jobs are going unfilled in New Mexico right now

    • 2 point plan to produce workers and fix the skill atrophy that has happened in New Mexico
      • Apprenticeship programs in every school
      • Work requirement for people on Medicaid to put people on the ladder to success

    3. Investing in our state businesses

    • Jeff Apodaca and Steve Pearce share a common belief that New Mexico could provide much more financing for small business and start-ups
    • State Investment Council funding already set aside for the state is not currently being fully utilized

    4. Make New Mexico more business friendly
