Pancho Romero: A Life in Music

Leora Zeitlin

Dr. Pancho Romero comes from a long tradition of music-making and music education in his extended family, going back at least three generations. As the trumpet professor at New Mexico State University, the lead trumpet player in the Las Cruces Symphony, and the director of the NMSU Jazz Ensembles, he devotes his life to playing and teaching all kinds of music. In advance of his solo appearance with the New Horizons Orchestra, under the direction of Marianna Gabbi, he came to talk to Intermezzo host Leora Zeitlin about his background, his work, and the famous trumpet concerto he’ll play by Johann Nepomuk Hummel.
