Lynn Middle School - A Community School Model

Lynn Middle School, 950 S. Walnut St., Las Cruces, NM

Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with Assistant Director of Engage New Mexico, David Greenberg, to take a look at Community Schools.

In 2013, the State of New Mexico passed a Community Schools Act and was adopted by Albuquerque Public Schools. A Community School is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources in order to help improve student learning and facilitate stronger families and healthier communities.

Greenberg says that oftentimes school facilities are empty in the evenings and on weekends and sometimes in the summer. He asks how we can use these facilities more efficiently and effectively to serve the need of our community.

The Community Schools is part of Success Partnership of Doña Ana County. He says that Lynn Middle School was selected as the Community School Model in Las Cruces. A meeting will be held this Monday, June 20 at 4 pm, at Lynn Middle School -950 S. Walnut Street, to discuss Community Schools. Seating is limited, so if you plan to attend please contact David Greenberg at 575-521-1957 or email him at david@ngagenm.org.
