Las Cruces Armed Robbery Suspect Charged

Las Cruces police arrested a man suspected of committing an armed robbery on a neighbor Wednesday evening.

Luis Eduardo Robles, 36, of the 4600 block of Big Springs Street, is charged with a second-degree felony count of armed robbery.

Investigators learned a man was driving home Wednesday evening when he saw a neighbor, later identified as Robles, waving a flashlight in his direction. The man drove to his own home and, before he exited his vehicle, was approached by Robles. The two spoke briefly before Robles began using profanity and pulled out a black handgun.

Investigators learned Robles ordered the man to hand over the cell phone that was resting on his lap. The victim handed over the phone and Robles fled the area, on foot, heading eastbound.

The victim retrieved another cell phone and called 911.

Shortly after being dispatched to the call, Las Cruces police officers located Robles walking out of an undeveloped area a short distance away, near the north end of Rinconada Boulevard. Robles was taken into custody without further incident.

Robles was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s initially being held without bond.
