Gun Buyback Planned For Saturday In Las Cruces

Las Cruces first ever GUNS TO GARDENS GUN BUYBACK

Saturday, July 28th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Las Cruces Police Department, 550 North Sonoma Ranch Blvd, East Mesa Public Safety Complex, Las Cruces, New Mexico 88011.

Las Cruces NM: Join the City of Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Police Department and New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence (NMPGV).

Following a successful fundraising effort by NMPGV, July 28th will mark the sixth Guns to Gardens statewide gun buyback to safely get unwanted working guns out of homes and off the streets. The guns will be forged into gardening tools some of which will be gifted to community gardens in New Mexico.

According to the New Mexico Department of Health, 401 people were shot and killed in our state in 2016. This means that gun-related deaths in New Mexico increased 16.4 percent in the past year, marking the largest increase in gun deaths in decades.

Additionally:

  • New Mexico children are killed by firearms at a rate 60 percent higher than the national average;
  • The majority of people in possession of unwanted firearms do not know how to dispose of them responsibly;
  • Secondhand transfers of such firearms do not require transaction records or criminal background checks;
  • Gun buyback programs are a proven way to safely and anonymously collect thousands of such weapons, immediately reducing the risk of gun violence in any community.

Please join us on Saturday, July 28th, at the Las Cruces Police Department. Merchant cards from Albertsons, Sprouts, CVS and Amazon will be distributed in exchange for unloaded, working firearms. All exchanges are anonymous.
