Elena Ulyanova will perform music by Rachmaninoff with LCSO

Elena Ulyanova has a special relationship with the music of Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, whose “Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini” she will perform with the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra this weekend. “It’s touched my heart since I was little,” she said in this interview with KRWG’s Intermezzo host Leora Zeitlin, “and I was interested to learn his music more and more.” Born in Crimea, Ulyanova began studying piano with her mother at age five, and by the age of twelve, when she left home to study at the prestigious Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow, she knew that music would be her life.
