Albuquerque High And West Mesa High Students Protest Hold Second Walkout/Protest Tuesday

For the second straight day, a group of parents, students and community members are walking out in protest of the PARCC Exams. The group is protesting because they feel the PARCC exams are harmful to public education and they want the test removed from graduation requirements.

“The PARCC exam is not an accurate measurement of ability and the test takes valuable time and money out of the classroom,” says Albuquerque High Senior and organizer Janelle Astorga.

“Our education is not for sale, we are more than a score!” says another student and organizer, Maya Quiñones.

Students at Albuquerque High School are set to walk out at 8:00am. They will then meet parents, families and supporters on Odelia Road, in front of the school's entrance.  There they will stay and protest on the sidewalk in front of the school until 9:40am.

West Mesa students are set to walk out at 9:30am. They will then meet parents, families and supporters in front of the school and walk collectively to the football field on the corner of Fortuna and 64th Street. They will stay there and protest until 11:50pm at which time they will go to their final class.

Organizers are asking students and families to wear white in solidarity.
