Las Cruces Police Testing Drivers

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico is ranked last in the country for pedestrian safety, so the Las Cruces Police Department is targeting the problem. As KRWG's Yasmin Pinon reports, starting this week and continuing for the rest of the summer, police will be giving out warnings and then tickets to drivers who don't yield to pedestrians.

Mexican Ambassador: Bi-National Support Needed to Stop Illegal Immigration

Las Cruces, NM – Mexico's Ambassador to the United States Carlos de Icaza was at New Mexico State University this morning. Joined by community leaders and local Mexican representatives, de Icaza detailed his country's perspective on illegal immigration. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, de Icaza says the U.S. and Mexico together need to come up with a comprehensive plan which would actually work.

News Brief: Re-opening of Quemado Lake Recreation Area

Las Cruces, NM – The Gila National Forest is re-opening the Quemado Lake Recreation Area, after having to shut down after three black bears entered the camp grounds. The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish removed the last bear on Thursday by using traps, patrols and dogs. District Ranger John Pierson, says the black bears came for the food and trash people leave behind or don't put away properly.

House Committee Meets In Las Cruces on Illegal Immigrant Voting

Las Cruces, NM – A Federal House Committee met Thursday in Las Cruces to talk about illegal immigrants voting in American Elections. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, some witnesses at the meeting are pushing for a photo ID requirement to prevent this type of voter fraud, while others warned the proposed measure would exclude many Americans.
