NM 90 Reopened

Las Cruces, NM – Officials at the New Mexico Department of Transportation and local law enforcement have reopened New Mexico 90, between Lordsburg and Silver City.

The road had been closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic due to snow pack and icy conditions.

However, motorists without four wheel drive vehicles or tire chains are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Alamogordo Mayor Switches Parties

Las Cruces, NM – Alamogordo Mayor Steve Brockett switched his party registration from Republican to Democratic on Tuesday.

The mayor who is up re-election in 2010 says he's never considered himself a liberal or a conservative.

In a press release, Brockett accused Republicans of not being open to working across party lines. He adds that Democrats have done a good job of bringing everyone together.

Strong Wind Warning

Las Cruces, NM – Strong winds are sweeping across southern New Mexico and west Texas this afternoon. According to the National Weather Service in El Paso, wind gusts tonight will reach sixty miles per hour.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation is reporting heavy winds on Interstate 10 From Arizona to the Texas state line which may affect driver visibility.
