Las Cruces, NM – This morning, the Dona Ana County Legal Department held a public hearing in Las Cruces to discuss the creation of a Tax Development District with Sierra County. The agreement is needed under state law to begin collecting money from a gross receipts tax approved to help fund Spaceport America. KRWG's Marco Grajeda has this report.
Las Cruces, NM – This week, New Mexico Voices for Children, a non-partisan advocacy group, announced an analysis of the State Legislative Finance Committee's 2008 Post Session Review. The review, released in March, provides a forecast of revenue growth for the state. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, the group's research director says the findings do not look good.

Las Cruces, NM – This week the United States Senate approved a bill which seeks to suspend the continued storage of seventy thousand barrels of oil per day at the country's Strategic Petroleum Reserve. A New Mexico economist says the move will affect the rising price of gasoline but only by a few cents.
Las Cruces, NM – Tuesday several southern New Mexico law enforcement agents came together in Las Cruces for a memorial to honor the area's fallen peace officers. The event was held at Onate High School's Performing Arts Center in remembrance of officers from federal, state and municipal law enforcement agencies. Las Cruces – Former Lea County Commissioner and 2nd Congressional District Democratic Candidate Harry Teague held a dinner and community meeting last week at Young Park in Las Cruces. Teague and Dona Ana County Commissioner Bill McCamley are vying for the Democratic nomination during the June 3rd primary.
Las Cruces, NM – Thursday officially marked the end of final exam week and Spring Semester 2008 at New Mexico State University. While some students will only rest for a couple of weeks before hitting the books again, thousands are preparing to leave the area on a three month vacation. Las Cruces – Firefighters in Central New Mexico have been battling a blaze in the Manzano Mountains for more than three weeks now. The fire tore through the region scorching almost 14,000 acres and destroying 59 homes. KRWG's Evan Woodward was at the site of the fire earlier this week and he reports that crews there are cautiously optimistic.
Las Cruces, NM – According to the Associated Press, Tuesday's Democratic Presidential Primaries in North Carolina and Indiana helped Senator Barrack Obama increase his lead in the delegate count to 150 over Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. Obama now needs about 170 delegates to secure the democratic nomination. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, with the race dwindling down pressure is building on the close to 270 uncommitted superdelegates including New Mexico U.S Representative Tom Udall to pick a side.

Recently, however Broad Canyon was added to a list of ten natural treasures that are at risk of losing their wilderness qualities. Environmental groups are pushing for legislative protection in order to preserve its wilderness qualities.
