Thursday, February 2nd through Saturday, February 25th 

The Mesquite Art Gallery is featuring photographs created on the iPhone with free apps by gallery owner, Mel Stone. Friday, February 3rd

The Las Cruces Museum of Art presents “New Mexico: 100 Years of Art”, an exhibition commemorating one hundred years of statehood as seen through artistic expression. The exhibit opens on Friday, February 3rd with a reception to be held during the Downtown Ramble from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  [INFO: (575) 541-2137] 

Friday, February 3rd (through February 27th)

The works of twelve members of the New Mexico Watercolor Society, Southern Chapter will be featured at the Blue Gate Gallery, 311 North Downtown Mall in Las Cruces.  The theme of the show, For the Love of Southwest Gates & Doorways, features original watercolors by society members, including Tom Gerend, Penny Thomas Simpson, Jan Addy, Beverley Pirtle, and Robin Lee Makowski.  The opening reception will be 5 - 7 p.m on the 3rd of February during the First Friday Downtown Ramble, a city-wide kick-off to start For the Love of Art month.  Friday, February 3rd (through Saturday, February 25th)

The Branigan Cultural Center presents two exhibits opening on the 3rd of February.  The Works from a Dona Ana County Sculpture Class, an exhibition of works by local student artists will open as will the annual For the Love of Art exhibit.  Both shows will be on display from Friday, February 3rd through Saturday, February 25th.  An artists’ reception with light refreshments will take place at the Branigan Cultural Center from 5:00pm – 7:00pm, Friday, February 3, during the monthly Ramble.  [INFO: (575) 541-2154] 

Friday, February 3rd through March

The paintings of fifteen artists from the Southern Chapter of the New Mexico Watercolor Society will be displayed at La Iguana Restaurant, 139 N Main Street, as part of For the Love of Art Month. The exhibit opens Friday, February 3, in conjunction with the Downtown Ramble, from 5 to 7 p.m.  Artists will be available during the Ramble to discuss watercolor as a painting medium. The Preston Contemporary Art Center in Mesilla is hosting its final exhibition “the Last Picture Show,” a Juried Regional Exhibition of the works of 64 artists from the Southern New Mexico/El Paso region, now through February 17th. The NMSU Art Gallery presents GLITTEROPOLIS, an interactive, immersive installation by Santa Fe-based artist collective Meow Wolf now through February 18th . The Gallery is located at 1390 E. University Avenue, east of Solano, in Las Cruces.  The Gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm, and now Wednesdays 6:00-8:00pm. [INFO: 575-646-2545]

The La Mesa Station Gallery, at 16-205 South Highway 28 in La Mesa, is featuring the work of 14 year old artist Sam Cueto until February 29th  Sam is paralyzed from the neck down and has learned how to paint with the aid of a laser.  [INFO:  nsmartin31 at msn dot com]

The Tombaugh Gallery presents “Arcs and Echoes”, works by contemporary painter Jill Somoza.   The Tombaugh Gallery of the Unitarian Universalist Church is located at 2000 S. Solano in Las Cruces and is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 am-2 pm.  [Info:  575 522-7281]

Rokoko Art Gallery is seeking art creations for a group show called "Gods, Godesses, Gurus and Gremlins," artworks inspired by faith and fantasy. All Entries due at Rokoko Art Gallery before April 8th. Gallery hours are Friday through Sunday, 12 to 5.  There is an entry fee for each piece.  [INFO:

February is “For the Love of Art Month” in Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley. For the 14th year, ArtForms Artists Association of New Mexico is coordinating events celebrating art in all its forms. Throughout the month, there are art exhibitions at locations such as the Branigan Cultural Center, theatrical and musical performances, studio tours, and art and quilt shows at the Las Cruces Convention Center. Saturday, February 4th

Theatre Group New Mexico and the Expressive Arts Department of WNMU will hold auditions for the spring production of “Alice in Wonderland, Jr.” on Saturday, February 4 from 9 am-12 noon, and 1-5 p.m.; and on Sunday, February 5 from 1-5 p.m.  Auditions will be held in the Parotti Music Building on the WNMU campus.  All children and youth ages 6-18 are welcome to audition and should bring a short song to sing.  [INFO: 575 313-2373]

The American Southwest Theatre Company at NMSU Theatre Arts presents Neil Simon’s comedy, “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” Friday, February 24th through Sunday, March 11th at the Hershel Zohn Theatre on the NMSU campus.  Performance times are 7:30 p.m. for Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening shows, and 2:00 for all Sunday shows from February 24 through March 11.  Tickets are available in advance or at the door.  [INFO: Tickets range from $10-$15 and are available at the Hershel Zohn Theatre Box office between the hours of 12-4 p.m. or by calling 646-4515]

Tuesday, January 31st 
Acoustic Eidolon plays Celtic, World, Latin, and Folk Music on a double-necked guitar and a cello.

Thursday, February 2nd

El Paso Pro Musica’s 2012 Chamber Music Festival features a free noon-time Bach’s Lunch, with Stephanie Meyers on the Violin, Nina Missildine on Viola, Lara Downes on Piano and Zuill Bailey on Cello, performing music of Mozart and Brahms on Thursday, February 2nd at the El Paso Museum of Art.    There will be a showing of the movie “Shine” that evening at 7pm.   The concert and movie are free and open to the public. Friday, February 3rd

The Howling Coyote Coffeehouse/Open Mic will take place at the Rio Grande Theatre on Friday, February 3rd as part of the First Friday Ramble in Downtown Las Cruces. In celebration of For Love of Art Month, Mikey's Place - A Workshop for the Arts presents its second annual all-ages "Sheesh ka Deesh", an eclectic evening of dance, dessert and nostalgia, Friday February 3RD from 7:30PM to 10:30PM. Thursday, Feb. 9 
The NMSU Music Department presents Johannes Moller, multiple international guitar competition winner, from Sweden on Thursday February 9th at 7:30 p.m. at the Atkinson Recital Hall. Friday, February 10th

The Landcuts Exhibit and Artists’ Reception opens on Friday, February 10th from 4 to 6 PM at Unsettled Gallery and Studio. There will be a performance of “In Our Own Voices” a show that features monologues and dance in an effort to raise awareness about gender issues, violence, and sexuality.  Performances will be at the Rohovec Theater on the NMSU-A campus on February 10th and 11th at 7:30 pm and February 12th at 2:00 pm. The College of Arts and Sciences Cultural Series will present New York Voices at 8 p.m., Thursday, February 16th at NMSU’s Atkinson Recital Hall. New York Voices is the Grammy Award winning vocal ensemble known for their excellence in jazz and the art of group singing. Saturday, February 18th

The New Horizon Swing Band of Las Cruces will play big band jazz for a post-Valentine's Day concert and dance on Saturday, February 18th, at the Hillsboro Community Center on Elenora Street 
in Hillsboro.  The dance starts at 7 pm and will run until the band gets tired.  A small

Saturday, February 18th

The American Southwest Theater Company’s annual Mardi Gras Gala will take place on Saturday, February 18th from 7 to 11 p.m. at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Museum.  The Mardi Gras Gala includes dinner followed by a special performance by the classic burlesque company, The Desert Dolls.  The event also includes a silent auction, a costume contest to declare the King and Queen of Mardi Gras, a cash bar, dancing, and much more. Tickets are available in advance or at the door, if not sold out.  All gala proceeds benefit ASTC’s programs, including funding guest artists and community outreach events. The Grant County Community Concert Association will be hosting young piano prodigy Anita Chen to the stage at the Western New Mexico University Fine Arts Center Theatre for a Matinee Performance on Sunday, February 26th at 3pm. Ms. Chen, born in the USA to Taiwanese parents, is not yet 21 years of age, but is internationally acclaimed as a rare, “double-threat” in classical music performance.
